About Gunnel Skölwe

Gunnel Skölwe was born in 1948 and is living and working in Tomelilla, southern Sweden.

Gunnel Skölwe paints with wax and pigment. In thin layers upon layers, she creates her art with a special interest for light. The wax makes intriguing effects that correspond to her soft and sombre colours and her bitter-sweet, lonely motifs. She worked as a musician for 20 years, which is reflected in the titles of her paintings, often borrowed from the songbook of jazz and the terminology of music. In music as well as in art, she is self-taught.
